Police Preventive Traffic Measures on the Country’s Roads in July
Targeted preventive traffic control measures will be carried out on national and local roads throughout July. Police officers will work using public, non-public, or mixed patrol modes.
● 1-3 July and 16-18 July – control of drivers of bicycles and electric micro-mobility vehicles. Particular attention will be paid to compliance with the requirements set out in Chapters VIII and VIII(1) of the Road Traffic Rules (hereinafter – RTR).
● 6-10 July and 29-31 July – checks of drivers of vehicles, including bicycles and electric micro-mobility vehicles, for sobriety and impairment caused by narcotic drugs or other psychoactive substances.
● 13-15 July – control of the use of mandatory safety equipment (seat belts, child restraint systems, and safety helmets).
● 20-21 July – control of drivers’ obligation to stop before pedestrian crossings when required under the RTR. Attention will also be paid to pedestrians’ responsible behaviour on the road, including whether they cross roads at designated locations, obey traffic signals at regulated intersections, avoid walking on bicycle paths and bicycle crossings, motorways, in a dividing lane or on the edge of the carriageway next to it, and comply with other applicable requirements.
● 22-24 July – control of driver activities unrelated to driving, such as the use of mobile phones while driving without a hands-free device. Compliance with seat belt and safety helmet requirements will also be checked.
Most traffic accidents occur due to excessive speed and unsafe manoeuvres, especially during weekends.
Do not exceed the speed limit and never drive under the influence. Never get behind the wheel after consuming alcohol or other psychoactive substances.
Stay alert. Hot weather and traffic congestion can cause fatigue more quickly, slow reaction times, and reduce concentration. If you feel drowsy or unwell, stop in a safe place and take a rest.
Take care of yourself. Drink enough water, ventilate or cool your vehicle, and, if possible, plan longer journeys early in the morning or in the evening when temperatures are lower.
