The police urge drivers to exercise caution and attentiveness

From July 3 to 6, the Lithuanian School Song Festival “Laiku. Ratu. Kartu” (“In Time. In Circle. Together”) will take place in Vilnius. Thousands of festival participants and guests have already arrived in the capital. Currently, rehearsals, concerts, and other festival events are taking place in the city’s parks, squares, schools, and stadiums.

Officials from the Vilnius County Police Headquarters urge drivers to be particularly attentive and responsible. An increased flow of pedestrians, especially large groups of children, requires greater attention from all road users.

Drivers are reminded to adhere to the requirements of the Road Traffic Rules: to choose a safe driving speed, remain vigilant, respect pedestrians, notice them in time, and yield at pedestrian crossings.

Special attention should be paid to children moving in groups. For children arriving from smaller towns and villages, the intense traffic in Vilnius may be unusual, making it more challenging for them to assess traffic situations and behave safely on the streets. Therefore, always be prepared to stop the vehicle immediately if a child unexpectedly runs into the roadway.

Some festival participants are accommodated in schools, so more children are present in school areas and their surroundings in the evenings. Road signs “Children” installed near educational institutions remind drivers of the need to be even more cautious. In these areas, it is important not only to adhere to the established speed limit but also to follow the provision of point 24 of the Road Traffic Rules – drivers must take additional precautions when children or persons with disabilities are present on the road.

Particularly cautious driving is required when passing a stopped school bus or a vehicle marked with a sign indicating that it is used to transport children. Children may unexpectedly run into the roadway from in front of or behind the bus, making maximum vigilance essential in such situations.

We hope the Lithuanian School Song Festival “Laiku. Ratu. Kartu” is a beautiful and safe celebration for everyone. Let us take care of one another, be responsible on the roads, and contribute to a safe festive atmosphere.
