BE VISIBLE! – a Preventive Campaign Promoting Road Safety
On October 16, as Lithuania marked Reflector Day, police officers across the Vilnius region carried out a targeted preventive operation titled “Be Visible!” The campaign symbolically aimed to “save ghosts” – pedestrians and other road users who move about after dark without wearing reflectors.
As autumn sets in and the days grow shorter, the number of “invisible” pedestrians, cyclists, and users of electric micro-mobility devices on the roads increases once again. Without reflective elements, they become difficult for drivers to see, posing a danger both to themselves and to others.
The police initiative in Vilnius was joined by representatives of JUDU – Sustainable Mobility (Susisiekimo paslaugos). In various parts of the city after dark, public transport inspectors handed out reflectors to passengers getting off buses and trolleybuses, reminding them that being visible means being safe.
Police officers continue to urge all road users – pedestrians, cyclists, and electric scooter riders – not to be “ghosts” in the dark, but to take steps to ensure their visibility on the road.
Every properly attached reflector, high-visibility vest with reflective elements, or light used at night can save a life.
This year, the police will continue the tradition of organizing “ghost-saving” campaigns, reminding everyone that visibility is one of the key conditions for safety on the roads.
