Traffic Safety and Preventive Control Measures Scheduled for October
Preventive traffic enforcement measures will be carried out throughout October on main roads, national roads, regional roads and local roads. Police officers will use marked vehicles, unmarked vehicles or both when conducting patrols.
● 1–3 & 19–22 October: Enforcement targeting drivers failing to yield to pedestrians at marked crossings as required by Road Traffic Rules. Pedestrian compliance will also be monitored, including proper use of designated crossings and adherence to traffic signals.
● 5–11 October: Pan-European operation “Focus on the Road”, coordinated by ROADPOL (European Roads Policing Network). Officers will focus primarily on detecting driver activities that distract them from driving. They will also check compliance with seatbelt requirements, the use of helmets where mandatory under the Road Traffic Rules, and the proper use of child restraint systems and booster seats.
. Officers will also work jointly, and other traffic violations will not go unnoticed.
● 14–16 October: Targeted monitoring of signal compliance and driving at intersections and railway level crossings.
● 24–26 October: Checks to determine whether drivers are under the influence of alcohol, narcotic drugs or other psychoactive substances.
● 29–31 October: Checks targeting dangerous and aggressive driving, hazardous manoeuvres and overtaking where prohibited.
15 October: Reflector Day. As daylight hours shorten in October, reduced visibility due to fog, rain and unlit roads poses significant risks. To increase your visibility, you and other pedestrians should use visibility aids such as reflectors, lights, and brightly coloured vests with reflective elements. This will help keep you safe and allow drivers to see you sooner, reducing the risk of road accidents and their potentially serious consequences.
26 October: “Švilpukas saugo” (“Whistle Protects”) public awareness campaign, organised in partnership with “UAB Autoaibė”. The campaign will aim to reduce and prevent vehicle collisions with animals, improve road safety and protect wildlife. The campaign will take place in selected cities and towns across the regions.
Drivers are advised to check current road conditions at https://eismoinfo.lt before travelling, remain attentive and allow extra time for their journeys.
